Blog Assignment #2

What Will Teaching in the 21st Century be Like?

 1. Mr. Dancealot, by Karl Johnson
Mr. Dancealot

The central message of this video, was demonstrating modeling, audio, graphics, tagging, and PowerPoint presentation.   Professor Dancelot modeled how to teach a style of dance, referred to "foxtrot". Professor Dancelot didn't allow the students to participate in class or use any group activities. The lecture was read, using a cursor, to point out details of the dance moves, towards the students. The author concluded, Mr. Dancelot demonstrated strategies that initiated independent learning.  The students took notes and transferred their knowledge by visual aids.  This would give Professor Dancelot strategies of how the lesson was taught during his lecture.

2. "Teaching in the 21st Century" by Kevin Roberts
Teaching the 21st Century

Kevin Roberts think it means to be engaged with the students using tools, which can be accessed "anytime and  anywhere".

Outline: according to "Roberts, we must use these concepts to identify our ideas listed below"
  • Create
  • Evaluate
  • Apply
  • Understand
  • Analyze
  • Remember
Roberts argument show us "how teachers are no longer the source", in the classroom. The teacher job is to "filter". He believes that students must be able to apply understanding of gaining  knowledge, gathering information, and discovering other ways to retrieve data.   Roberts viewed how students learn to "create and think, collaborate, analyze, problem solve, research information given to them in the world." Roberts expressed and modified using tools, such as social media, and being a risk taker on virtual websites. The works of being innovative and creativity is vital in the classroom.  Students are explaining the sources and using web browsers, to explore many facts and information in cyber world.  Roberts expresses the way students can evaluate their work by using audio, video, and graphics, without anyone speaking.  The creative works of learning are using search engines, like Google. How far learning has come using the internet to demonstrate a random idea is effortless. A person may have or question to find out facts.  The sources used are on some many devices that we hold in the palm of our hands. The most common devices include cellphones, iPods, and tablets,, according to Roberts". The use of problem solving is engaging through our students. All the students elements of art, language mechanics, science, and math concepts are a challenge but can be researched using tools. The students are able to demonstrate ,clarifying, and proofreading , "reliable sources such as blogs and podcasts, using the techniques of videoing work, to evaluate reasons, of how something works.

The media is constantly changing.  The channels in which I take advantage include how widgets and design programming have empowered our lives.  After watching the video I understand that using computer programming can be done in a different light.  The spectrums of intergrading communicating through Skype, podcasting, and Google are imperative to validate things I take for granted.

As an educator, it will affect me tremendously. In addition I will be efficient on using all the tools. I will be able to engage my students more by using all the internet and social media offers. Workshops would provide a great way to integrate networking all over the world.

3. "The Networked Student" by Wendy Drexler

The Networked Student
Students still needs a teacher to ensure his abilities to demonstrate the skills learned are truly understood and that they are able to provide clarity their finding. It will allow me to "filter" the mechanics and content that the students are unsure of. Now the students can be able to understand how to develop reasoning, enhance their skill. Students will have the ability to connect and communicate information. They will also be able to share and solve information.

4. Movie"Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts", Vicki Smarts

With the Harness Your Students, Digital Smarts" video I will maintain a developmental method to research, navigate, and explore resources, given by modeling.  I will remember to validate sync, communicate with others, and find ideas to problem solve.  It can apply comparisons and determine results.  I will outline the information given and organize the ideas.  With that being done I can make assumptions and form an outcome.  The different ways of engaging networks of people can build my learning throughout.

social networks
Networks in the palm of our hands

The thesis of Davis' video states and explains teaching digital information, writing, and sharing collaborative reports all over the world "using every technology made, to connect with people all over the world".

My reaction to Davis' argument is true.  The students must develop and adapt to teaching themselves many types of devices.  When the students gain information and can share it with their peers it builds a connection.   It allows all students to take an opportunity to utilize new software and be creative on their own.  The students showed in the video are taught without using without using paper and pen.  Mrs. Davis expressed how the use of paper and pen affects learning technology.  As a result, the students were not successful. The use of using the Wiki and curriculum motivates everyone to participate in brainstorming.  She provides the student with tools, vocabulary, and anticipate the learner to gain knowledge of what the term or terms mean, to apply it to the digital world.

5. "Flipping the Classroom"

Flipping the Classroom

Yes, flipping a classroom is new to me.  I agree this approach will be helpful to me as a teacher. Flipping a classroom is encouraging, because it models how students are gaining knowledge and giving feedback.  It takes time out of lecturing a group and never knowing if the information has been stored or whether any information has value.  Flipping the classroom gives me inspiration to build a rapport with the students.  Students should be ability to become with familiar different strategies of learning.   A  student  can learn at home by building background, practice, and by using creativity within technology.  Students can plan, asking questions, and model in the classroom. It strengthens the ability to develop the concept of using "innovative technology " within the classroom.

  1. This post was very well-written, but I will have to disagree with you on certain aspects. I do enjoy the ideas of integrating technology into the classroom and really utilize the various approaches of social media, but I am more "old school" when it comes to teaching. As a music educator, I prefer a more "hands-on" technique. How else could I properly instruct a student on how to properly hold a violin or have a correct stance when singing? I like a more blended method towards education instead of being completely immersed into a technical style.

  2. Victoria, thanks for all the relative remarks. It opened up different points of view about my teaching skills. The attributes of teaching in technology is very quick. As a daughter of a Business teacher, all my life, I've seen the old fashion typewriters, then large computers, and etc.. My point is saying, I taught the old fashion way, using a green board, over screen projector, and explicit teaching. I got burnt out. The children were not as engaged or enthused by the colorful or checked out materials to enhance a variety. I agree how you enjoy hands-on teaching. I am a visual learner, audio, and hands-on. However, I must practice numerous times, on each, just to see what works, for that particular activity. Not all hands-on are effective, my personal experience. It can affect brain connectivity and forces other parts of the hypothalamus to work harder. I found your point of view helpful, but it's always great to have a technology. I'm spoiled by it. As young as I am, I get extremely excited, when my mom comes home with new devices, she going to introduce to her business classes. They out shine me, typing, graphic designing, and a collaboration of works. Music and singing are my passion. I have played clarinet, a woodwind instrument, all my life, before college. It's tedious, to be an expert in to many field, when the best composer is your self. Tell me what you think, how we both can get the bets of both transitions? Excited to take some new tips, from you. Teaching is creative ! Rule of thumb, use what works, but take a little from what can save time, in a 45 minute lecture, with blending techniques.

  3. You missed the point of Mr. Dancealot. It was a spoof on burp-back instruction and a clear example of how that style of teaching does not work!

"Roberts argument, show us "how teachers are no longer the source", in the classroom." the commas should be removed. Even then the sentence is awkward (assuming show becomes shows [argument is singular] and you make Roberts possessive by adding an ' after the s). Here is a better sentence: Roberts argues that technology changes the role in the classroom from providing information to guiding research to find information.

"Roberts states, students…" You need a colon instead of a comma here.

"Roberts viewed how students are learn to "create and think…" Remove are.

"Roberts expressed and modified using tools,…" What does this mean?

"The works of being innovative and creativity is vital, in the classroom." What does this mean? In addition works is plural but your verb is singular.

" Roberts' expresses, the way students can evaluate their work by using audio, video, and graphics, without anyone speaking. The creative works of learning by being engaged using search engines, like Google." Why the passive? Expresses is not the correct word here but I do not know how to correct this sentence since I cannot determine what you meant to say.
