Asking Questions: What questions do we ask? How do we ask?

The effective way of asking questions is open-ended, closed-ended, and Bloom's Taxonomy. Open-ended questions clarify a vague comment, assess learning, explore attitudes, refine a statement, allow students to respond to each other.  Close-ended questions test retention and comprehension. Bloom's Taxonomy identifies cognitive progresses and ordered level of complexity involved. Remember to ask specific questions to ensure the students' understanding, randomly call student's names, generate a list of questions, and propose a question that gets the students thinking.  Give students a moment to think of the direct question. The responses to open-ended questions will get students brain storming and provide specific details about the topic.  The teacher can listen, engage, and check for comprehension. Close ended questions will allow a student to respond with yes or no.  The  Bloom's Taxonomy, by Benjamin Johnson provides questions to gather retention and another way of thinking. Students use think pair share questions to demonstrate clarity.  I found these methods very helpful, when getting the classroom engaged in assessing learning, supporting assertion and interpretations of the materials.

I would like to use opened ended questions in my classroom.   Open-ended questions is a very effective way to see how the student think and value information.  Ask effective questions to measure and improve student learning.  When we ask closed-ended questions students answer quick and give a limited response.  Questions are important and help us learn to critical think.

"You thought it could not be done in math"

I have been assigned to Silvia Tolisano. She is the author of Langwitches Blog. The Blog describes math problems. She discusses the virtues of showing off the students work using data.  She observes how students bring mathematical problems alive across the internet world. The data illustrates understanding  of various types of math problems. The student navigates data and then enters them into a computer.  The information is stores and shared with others. She couldn't believe that English teachers were not taking advantage of this writing technique. It sets a "platform" in which students can acquire knowledge of solving problems with a variety of different steps. The students can also gain writing skills with the added benefit of learning to illustrate their thinking when it comes to solving mathematical problems on electronic devices. It functions as another effective method of obtaining knowledge.

"Blogging as pedagogy facilitate learning"

Looking at my C4Tp#2 comment, the main idea of this blogging pedagogy reflects on writing, sharing, reading the data, learning various concepts, and gaining feedback from the students.  The blogging pedagogy explains how reflection improves reading and writing skills.   The audience can visualize cognitive thinking.   The writing concepts enable the student to use media forms, and resources. It prepares the audience to connect experiences and leave feedback to the blogger to facilitate learning.  There are many benefits to include reading, writing, reflecting, and sharing in a blog.   The audience receives feedback to the writer to improve and evaluate your teaching practices. I learned the writer gathers a collaboration of ideas and connects their experience using mixed media.   I didn't know the audience has such a great influence on the writers' blog post.   The blog is channeled into a digital space known as the Reading Environment. The way blogging can be used in English or Literature can evoke debates or be used as writing prompts.   A blog can create an interactive platform in the classroom.  I find this fun to teach students step-by-step procedures. It helps the students to visualize, create graphs, and gain knowledge in  statistics. Finally, it assists the students in understanding the complex reasoning of mathematical problem.

Project #4 C4Ta#1

The Brain
Independent Learner

After reading Dahl Blog, it provided ways to change a classroom of student's ability to stay engaged, focused, and ready to learn. The students learned how to use their brain to plan and think about their own abilities of learning.  The strategies of using "explicit teaching" methods spoke volumes.  The studies illustrated that students made a much more marginal difference than one's struggling with the idea of not practicing over again. Classroom management was more effective because the student used their minds to think and analyze the information. The students investigated the data and recalled the practices learned. A cognitive strategy builds the understanding of the concepts. The students improve effectively by modeling thinking, transferring, and understanding waves of information.  The student is able to practice communicate the reasoning for writing language, and use manipulation.  It builds a strong background on concepts and language barrier when communicating with peers.  The idea of sharing knowledge is to explain, ask questions, make connections, and predict the student to judge their assignments.  The student can distinguish between what's relevant and irrelevant information, from reading and practices, throughout their core studies.

I took some appreciation of engaging and using the brain to explore learning in a different mechanism. My reflection about Dahl blog, I mentioned how dynamics enhanced a brighter future for today's student. It strengthens their person-learning environment. It builds that positive reinforcement.  I can do it! The skills reinforced everyday will allow the student to grasp, by drawing conclusions.  The brain mechanisms will facilitate the ideas and regenerate the thought process.  It takes the struggling reader longer to integrate making reasonable answers and understanding the concept.  I have a better understanding how to get the students engaged in independent learning, especially in small group or independent activities. This allows the student to acknowledge the principles of identifying, analyzing, predicting, practice, and cognitive thinking.

I agree explicit teaching helps the student to develop, discipline and gain cognitive strategies. It reduces many distractions that could affect classroom management. Teachers were able to see rapid improvements in their students learning assessments. The student demonstrates growth, by different learning trends, motivating, and recalling information gained through cognitive strategies. The student begins to build confidence and construct a positive way to learning effectively.

Blog Assignment #3

"How Can you Provide Meaningful Feedback to Your Peers?

peer
When providing meaningful feedback to your peers, always remember to give compliments, suggestions, and make corrections to assist the person with their writing.  Always be specific, creative, and positive! Peer editing helps a writer with spelling, grammar, sentence construction,  and punctuation. These improvements make the writer aware of repetitive mistakes. This allows other readers to make positive suggestions on organization skills., such as, thesis, main ideas, and supporting sentences, finding the evidence to argue, a good conclusion.

I will look at positive and constructive criticism, a little different, as a tool. It's important to use an outline, before I write my sentences.  I like the part of using strong word choices. How can you apply constructive criticism to your paper?

Blog Assignment #2

What Will Teaching in the 21st Century be Like?

 1. Mr. Dancealot, by Karl Johnson
Mr. Dancealot

The central message of this video, was demonstrating modeling, audio, graphics, tagging, and PowerPoint presentation.   Professor Dancelot modeled how to teach a style of dance, referred to "foxtrot". Professor Dancelot didn't allow the students to participate in class or use any group activities. The lecture was read, using a cursor, to point out details of the dance moves, towards the students. The author concluded, Mr. Dancelot demonstrated strategies that initiated independent learning.  The students took notes and transferred their knowledge by visual aids.  This would give Professor Dancelot strategies of how the lesson was taught during his lecture.

2. "Teaching in the 21st Century" by Kevin Roberts
Teaching the 21st Century

Kevin Roberts think it means to be engaged with the students using tools, which can be accessed "anytime and  anywhere".

Outline: according to "Roberts, we must use these concepts to identify our ideas listed below"
  • Create
  • Evaluate
  • Apply
  • Understand
  • Analyze
  • Remember
Roberts argument show us "how teachers are no longer the source", in the classroom. The teacher job is to "filter". He believes that students must be able to apply understanding of gaining  knowledge, gathering information, and discovering other ways to retrieve data.   Roberts viewed how students learn to "create and think, collaborate, analyze, problem solve, research information given to them in the world." Roberts expressed and modified using tools, such as social media, and being a risk taker on virtual websites. The works of being innovative and creativity is vital in the classroom.  Students are explaining the sources and using web browsers, to explore many facts and information in cyber world.  Roberts expresses the way students can evaluate their work by using audio, video, and graphics, without anyone speaking.  The creative works of learning are using search engines, like Google. How far learning has come using the internet to demonstrate a random idea is effortless. A person may have or question to find out facts.  The sources used are on some many devices that we hold in the palm of our hands. The most common devices include cellphones, iPods, and tablets,, according to Roberts". The use of problem solving is engaging through our students. All the students elements of art, language mechanics, science, and math concepts are a challenge but can be researched using tools. The students are able to demonstrate ,clarifying, and proofreading , "reliable sources such as blogs and podcasts, using the techniques of videoing work, to evaluate reasons, of how something works.

The media is constantly changing.  The channels in which I take advantage include how widgets and design programming have empowered our lives.  After watching the video I understand that using computer programming can be done in a different light.  The spectrums of intergrading communicating through Skype, podcasting, and Google are imperative to validate things I take for granted.

As an educator, it will affect me tremendously. In addition I will be efficient on using all the tools. I will be able to engage my students more by using all the internet and social media offers. Workshops would provide a great way to integrate networking all over the world.

3. "The Networked Student" by Wendy Drexler

The Networked Student
Students still needs a teacher to ensure his abilities to demonstrate the skills learned are truly understood and that they are able to provide clarity their finding. It will allow me to "filter" the mechanics and content that the students are unsure of. Now the students can be able to understand how to develop reasoning, enhance their skill. Students will have the ability to connect and communicate information. They will also be able to share and solve information.

4. Movie"Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts", Vicki Smarts

With the Harness Your Students, Digital Smarts" video I will maintain a developmental method to research, navigate, and explore resources, given by modeling.  I will remember to validate sync, communicate with others, and find ideas to problem solve.  It can apply comparisons and determine results.  I will outline the information given and organize the ideas.  With that being done I can make assumptions and form an outcome.  The different ways of engaging networks of people can build my learning throughout.

social networks
Networks in the palm of our hands

The thesis of Davis' video states and explains teaching digital information, writing, and sharing collaborative reports all over the world "using every technology made, to connect with people all over the world".

My reaction to Davis' argument is true.  The students must develop and adapt to teaching themselves many types of devices.  When the students gain information and can share it with their peers it builds a connection.   It allows all students to take an opportunity to utilize new software and be creative on their own.  The students showed in the video are taught without using without using paper and pen.  Mrs. Davis expressed how the use of paper and pen affects learning technology.  As a result, the students were not successful. The use of using the Wiki and curriculum motivates everyone to participate in brainstorming.  She provides the student with tools, vocabulary, and anticipate the learner to gain knowledge of what the term or terms mean, to apply it to the digital world.

5. "Flipping the Classroom"

Flipping the Classroom

Yes, flipping a classroom is new to me.  I agree this approach will be helpful to me as a teacher. Flipping a classroom is encouraging, because it models how students are gaining knowledge and giving feedback.  It takes time out of lecturing a group and never knowing if the information has been stored or whether any information has value.  Flipping the classroom gives me inspiration to build a rapport with the students.  Students should be ability to become with familiar different strategies of learning.   A  student  can learn at home by building background, practice, and by using creativity within technology.  Students can plan, asking questions, and model in the classroom. It strengthens the ability to develop the concept of using "innovative technology " within the classroom.

Blog Assignment #1

What About EDM310?

The thing I have heard about EDM310 is to complete all assignments, and you will be okay.   I heard to make sure I’m using Goggle Chrome. I have to take advantage of all the lab assistants’ help.

My fear about EDM310 is not able to master a skill, using this new technology, in a fast pace.   My fear is to not be able to recognize the mechanics of publicizing all blogs, and getting the proper criticism, to be a better blogger.   My fear is not being late on an assignment or get behind even though I may reach out to all the supporting help.

When I compare EDM310 versus other courses I have taken in college, EDM310 requires assignments consistency, dedication, independent learning.  EDM310 requires numerous hours preparing in short time.   My other courses, I spent the same number allocated time and pacing.  When I studied my core subjects, the teacher gave bookwork to correspond with the lesson.  The teaching technique of teaching has gone completely project base learning. I experienced a lot of modeling, with peer sharing.   EDM310 and past subjects, share a lot of writing.  They both require proofreading and balancing.  All the subjects, I used a computer, but the operating systems have changed, which makes the projects or word documents elaborate. All my school life, I recall peer sharing and rubrics.   The rubrics are stricter now.  All  of the subjects have deadlines, but EDM310 is defined as a long-term job, and you can never walk away.  If you’re gone to long, you will be in a twilight zone.

The most difficult part for me, in EDM310 is transferring the lecture into my study time.   It takes me along time to understand what the information the teacher wants me to do.  It takes me to write, look, and see examples, before I can attempt to do an assignment, I have trouble, navigating between the screens and watching Dr. Strange, jump all over the examples or skills. The time I feel, I can do the lesson, I’m waiting for a moment, to try to do the skill on my own, before I can move forward.

I strongly feel, the best way to address my concern, is to consult with Coach Strange and see what methods I can take to stay ahead and functional to be the best at all the interesting technology aspects this class have to offer, in the modern world of technology.

I would like to do group or paired sharing to assist me with learning and retaining the skills, learned in class.  I would suggest an opportunity, to allow the student to test a skill, as we learn the foundations, before submitting an assignment for a grade, so suddenly.

environment, for today’s youth. I have lived in San Diego, CA, for 15 years. I moved to Mobile, Al to assist my family. I want further my education, as an educator to modify, demonstrate and distinguish knowledge, among early education. I have been fortunate to be a product of an educator, my mother. I have experienced teaching as a paraprofessional, in the Archdiocese of Mobile, Al, Most Pure Catholic School.

I was offered a position to teach 2nd grade. I enjoy the field of teaching small groups and phonetic awareness. It brightens a child’s mind, to know, you care and exploring all students character and learning abilities. I experienced writing lesson plans and teaching middle school Science, under a great remarkably educator, to science, Sister Shirley, in loving memory, she devoted her life to science. This was a profound to me. She was my mentor and I learned all the attributes of science through many forms. Learning is a continuous . It is tangible. I enjoy seeking many new ideas, from others, to drive the most thing to life. I have implemented how to incorporate social media and I do, you do, and we do, into daily living. I have traveled across a far to clear my imagination through the waves of oceans waves, to collaborate thoughts and reasons, the foundations to better a my life. Everyday, I took something very valuable. Teaching is my passion. The feeling of knowing I have taught someone to enjoy reading, writing, and mathematics, is magnificent. We encounter all these concepts, on a daily basis. Our society is moving so quickly. Education has become a major impact on my generation. I am a believer of learning.
